So I was wrong, knitting is still popular, just not obviously in the circles I hang around in.
I would say that knitting is more popular than it’s given credit for. Especially if we apply it to certain regions. You get to colder areas and they would easily be considered in higher demand than coastal spots. Of course that’s from my limited logic. There’s also an even better chance that knitted gear does well in warm areas because most that I come across are stylish in nature.
