How To Knit A Baby Pullover

Here is a gorgeous pattern for a baby pullover with a round yoke. This baby pullover is knitted in one piece without any side seams. The sleeves are knitted separately.

Materials:

4 ply baby wool (50g balls) – 2 balls in color of your choice.

One 15cm zip

One pair each 3mm a 3.25mm knitting needles

Stitch holders

Measurements:

This baby pullover will fit a baby of 6(9) months.

The all round measurements of the garment: Chest 50(56)cm.

Length to the back of neck: 23(27)cm.

Sleeve seam: 14(17)cm.

The instructions are given for the smallest size and the larger size is in brackets. Where only one figure is given, it applies to both the sizes.

Tension:

To save both time and money it is recommended that you check the tension.

28sts and 40 rows = 10cm over pattern using 3,25mm needles.

If there are too few sts on the test swatch, using a thinner needle and if there are too many, use thicker needles.

Stitches Used:

K1, P1, RIB. The pattern will be explained in the instructions.

Back and Fronts (Worked In One Piece Up to Armholes):

Using 3,25mm needles cast on 172(192) sts and k 3 rows.

Now cont in patt as folls:

1st Row: RSF, p2 *yon, SKTPO, yrn, p2, rep from * to end of row.

2nd Row: k2 *p1 tbl, p1, p1 tbl, k2, rep from * to end of row.

3rd Row: p2, *k3, p2, rep from * to end of row.

4th Row: k2, *p3, k2 rep from * to end of row.

Rep the last 4 rows 10(12) times then the first 3 rows again.

Now divide for the back and front: WSF, patt 40(44)sts and leave these sts on holder for right back.

Cast off 6(8) sts for armhole, patt 79(87) sts and leave these 80(88) sts on holder for the front.

Cast off 6(8) sts for second armhole and cont on rem sts for left back.

Left Back:

Cont in patt, dec 1st (=work 2tog) at armhole edge on next 10(14) rows thus ending with a WSR = 30 sts.

Leave sts on holder.

RSF, rejoin yarn to 80(88) sts for the front, pick up sts from holder and dec 1 st at each end of next 10(14) rows, thus ending with a WSR = 60sts. Leave sts on holder. RSF, rejoin yarn to rem 40(44)sts for right back, pick up sts from holder and work as for left back, rev shaping thus ending with a WSR, leave sts on holder.

Sleeves: (Both Alike)

Using 3mm needles cast on 36(40)sts and work in rib patt for 12 rows inc 1(2)sts evenly across last row = 37(42)sts.

Change to 3.25mm needles and cont in patt as for back, inc 1 st at each end of next and every foll 6th row 5(7) times in all = 47(56) sts.

Cont straight and when work measures 14(17)cm from beg ending with a WSR, Shape top of the sleeve.

Cast off 3(4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at each end of next 10(13)rows = 21(22)sts. Work 0(1) more row, dec 1 st at beg of row = 21 sts. Leave sts on holder.

Yoke:

RSF, using 3,25mm needles, rejoin yarn to left back and k to end, then k across 21 sts of the first sleeve, k60sts across front inc 1 st at the end, then k across 21 sts of second sleeve and 30sts across back neck= 163 sts. Beg and end each WSR with p1, work 3(5) rows in rib patt.

1st dec row: Rib 8, *SKTPO, rib 9, rep from * ending last rep, rib 8 = 137sts. Work 5 rows straight in rib patt.

2nd dec row: Rib 7, *p3tog, rib 7, rep from * to end of row = 111sts. Work 5 rows straight in rib patt.

3rd dec row: Rib 6 *SKTPO, rib 5, rep from *ending last rep rib 6 = 85sts. Work 5 rows straight in rib patt.

4th dec row: Rib 5, *p3tog, rib 3, rep from * ending last rep rib 5 = 59sts. Change to 3mm needles and k 3 rows. Cast off remaining sts.

To Make Up:

Block pieces to measurement, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

Sew armhole seams, then sleeve seams.

Leaving an opening at the top for the zip, sew up the remainder of the back seam. Sew in the zip.
