Here is a quick and easy baby hoodie knitting pattern for you to try out. It will fit ages 0 – 3 (3 – 6, 6 – 12, and 12 – 24 months. It has a zip on the front of the jacket.
Instructions To Knit this Baby Hoodie Knitting Pattern
As I said previously, this jacket can be made to fit a child of up to two years old.
The Chest measurement is 47 (50; 58; 62) cm.
The Length to shoulder is 24 (28; 32; 38) cm.
The Sleeve seam is 16 (19; 22; 26) cm.
You Will Need:
5 (5; 6; 6) x 50g balls of Elle Premier Natural Cotton DK in a shade of your choice.
4mm knitting needles
4mm circular knitting needles
Stitch Holder
Open-ended zip to fit down the centre front.
Instructions are given for the smallest size with the larger sizes in brackets( ).
Where one set of figures is shown, it will apply to all the sizes.

Tension:
22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm measured over st st using 4 mm needles.
Back:
Using 4mm needles c/on 52 (56; 64; 70) sts and work 8 rows in g st.
Starting with a k row, work in st st until work measures 12 (15; 18; 23) cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape The Armholes:
C/off 0 (0; 0; 3) sts at beg of next 2 rows [52 (56; 64; 64) sts].
C/off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows [48 (52; 60; 60)sts].
Dec 1 st at each end of row on next and every foll 2 alt rows [42 (46; 54; 54) sts].
Cnt straight on these sts until work measures 24 (28; 32; 38) cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape The Shoulder:
C/off 12(13; 16; 16) sts at beg of next 2 rows [18 (20; 22; 22) sts]. Leave these sts on a st holder for centre back neck.
Right Front:
Using 4 mm needles c/on 26 (28; 32; 35) sts and work 8 rows in g st.
Starting with a k row, work in st st until work measures 12 (15; 18; 23) cm from beg, ending with a RS row.
Shape Armhole:
C/off 0 (0; 0; 3) sts at beg of next row [26 (28; 32; 32) sts].
Work 1 row.
C/ off 2 sts at beg of next row [24 (26; 30; 30) sts].
Work 1 row.
Now dec 1 st at beg of next and foll 2 alt rows [21 (23; 27; 27) sts].
Cont straight on these sts until work measures 18 (22; 26; 31) cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Neck:
C/off 3(4; 5; 5) sts at beg (neck edge) of next row [18 (19; 22; 22) sts].
Work 1 row.
C/off 2 sts at beg (neck edge of next and foll alt row [14 (15; 18; 18) sts].
Work 1 row.
Now dec 1 st at beg (neck edge) of next and foll alt row [12 (13; 16; 16) sts].
Cont straight on these sts until work measures the same as back to shoulder ending with a WS row.
C/off all sts.
Left Front:
Work as given for the right front and end work with a WS row before shaping armholes.
End work with a RS row before shaping neck.
Sleeves: – Both Alike:
Using 4 mm ns c/on 30 (30; 38; 38) sts and work 8 rows in g st.
Starting with a k row, work in st st, inc 1 st at each end of row on next and every foll 4th (4th; 8th; 10th) row until there are 38 (40; 46; 46) sts on the needles.
Now inc 1 st at each end of row on next and every foll 6th (6th; 10th; 12th) row until there are 44 (48; 50; 50) sts on the needles.
Cont straight on these sts until work measures 16 (19; 22; 26) cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Top:
C/off 2 sts at beg of next 8 (8; 8; 10) rows [28 (32; 34; 30) sts].
Dec 1 st at each end of row on next and every foll 3 (5; 6; 5) alt rows [20 (20; 20; 18) sts].
C/off 2 stws at beg on next 2 rows [16 (16; 16; 14) sts].
C/off 5 (5; 4; 3) sts at beg of foll 2 rows [6 (6; 8; 8) sts]. C/off all sts.
Hoodie:
Sew back and fronts together at shoulder seams.
Using 4mm ns c/on 23 (23; 24; 26) sts, work across 18 (20; 22; 22) sts on st holder for back neck as fols: K2 (3; 4; 4) sts, M1, (k4, M1) 3 times, k2, M1, k2 (3; 4; 4) sts, c/on 23 (23; 24; 26) sts [69 (71; 75; 79) sts].
Starting with a p row, work in st st until work measures 15 (17; 18; 19) cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Top of Hoodie:
C/off 23 (24; 25; 26) sts at beg of next 2 rows [23 (23; 25; 27) sts].
Cont straight in st st until hood measures 12 (13; 13; 14) cm from c/off edge, ending with a WS row.
C/off all the sts.
Sew side edges on top of hood to c/off edges. Sew c/on edge of hood neatly to front neck edge.
To Make Up:
Fold the sleeves in half lengthways, place folds on the shoulder seams and sew sleeves into position.
Sew the side and sleeve seams.
Front and Hoodie Border:
With the RS of the garment facing and using a 4mm circular needle, pick up and k44 (52; 62; 72) sts evenly up right front straight edge, pick up and k 34 (36; 40; 42) sts up right front edge of hood, pick up and k across the 23 (23; 25; 27) sts of top hood, pick up and k 34 (36; 40; 42) sts down the left front edge of hood and pick up and k 44 (52; 62; 72) sts down left front straight edge [179 (199; 229; 255)sts].
Work 3 rows in g st. C/off all sts kwise.
To Complete:
Block the garment to measurement, cover with a damp cloth and leave to dry.
Choose an open-ended zip to fit the centre front edge. Sew the zip tap to the centre fronts, with the garter stitch border covering the tape.
