Finished hip measurement – 56 (61) cm.
Length from waist to ankle – 32 (38)cm
Inside leg measurement – 18 (20) cm
Waist to crotch measurement 15 (18) cm
You Will Need:
2 x 50g balls of 4-ply wool in one shade and 2 x 50g balls of 4-ply yarn in another shade of your choice.
4mm and 4,5 mm knitting needles.
4.5 mm circular knitting needle
2 stitch holders.
Sufficient elastic to fit a waist that is 1cm wide.
To create a random dyed effect on the pants, work one strand of 4-ply yarn in one color and one strand of 4-ply yarn in another color together to make one stitch.
Work with two strands together throughout this pattern. If you have chosen to make them one color, then knit with two strands of wool throughout.
The finished knitted fabric will be slightly thicker than a standard DK yarn and the pants will also be a lot more durable this way.
Instructions are given for the smallest size with the larger size in brackets (). Where one set of figures is given, it applies to both sizes.

18 sts and 28 rows to 10cm measured over st st using 4.5 mm needles and two strands of yarn.
Legs – Make Two Alike
Each leg is worked separately and then joined together to work the casing for the waistband.
Using 4,5 mm needles, cast on 50(54) sts and using two strands of yarn throughout.
Work in moss st patt for the lower legs as folls:
1st Row (RS): *K2, p1, rep to end.
2nd Row: *P1, k1, rep to end.
Rep these 2 rows that form the pattern 5 times more.
Starting with a k row, work in st st until the leg measures 18 (20) cm from c/on edge, ending with a WS row.
Place these sts on an st holder.
With the RS of the work facing, place the sts from both legs on a 4,5 mm circular n.
Note: You will now work the rem of pants in rounds. Join the ends of yarn at the center back, and place a marker here to indicate the beg of the round.
1st Rnd: K across 25(27) sts of left leg, place a maker to indicate the left side. K50(54) sts, place a marker to indicate the right-side, k to end of rnd, finishing at the center back [100 (108) sts].
Working in st st, work 10 more rnds.
Next Rnd (dec rnd): K to within 3 sts of the marker at the left side, k2 tog, k1, sl maker in place, k1, SSK, knit to within 3 sts of the marker at the right side marker, k2tog, k1, sl marker in place, k1, SSK, k to end of rnd [96 (104) sts].
Cont in st st at the same time working dec rnds as set on every foll 7th (8th) rnd 3 times more [82 (92) sts].
Work straight on these sts until the pants measure 15 (18)cm from the beg of rnds, ending with a WS row.
Next Rnd( RS): p to end of rnd, this will produce a ridge on the RS of work and will be used as the fold line for turning the casing.
Work in st st for 7 more rnds.
To Make Up
Turn the casing over at the fold line to the WS of the work. Slip stitch the casing in place, leaving a 5cm opening to insert the elastic.
Cut a length of elastic to fit the waist, allowing extra for seam allowances.
Pin a safety pin to one end of the elastic and thread through the opening. Overlap the ends of the elastic and stitch securely.
Sew the gap in the casing.
Sew in loose ends at the back of the work.
Join the legs together at the inside leg seams.
Sew any patches or motifs neatly in place at the front of the knees. (optional)
