Materials Needed:
For this boys sweater knitting pattern you will need:
- 7(8;9;9;10) 50g balls of Pingouin Family Knit DK in Navy Blue (Pic) or any other color of your choice.
- 5 buttons
- 1 pair each of 3mm and 3 1/4mm knitting needles
- a stitch holder or cable needle

Measurements:
To fit ages 4(6;8;10;12) years.
Actual all around chest measurement 76(81;86;91;96)cm.
Length to shoulder 42(45;48;51;54)cm.
Sleeve Length 33(36;40;43;47)cm.
Figures in round brackets ( ) refer to larger sizes; where there is only one set of figures given, it applies to all the sizes.
Tension:
24sts and 32 rows to 10cm over reversed stocking stitch using 3 14 needles.

Pattern For Boys Sweater:
The Honeycomb Pattern is worked as follows:
1st Row: k
2nd and alt Rows: p
3rd Row: k2, *C4R, C4L, *rep from * to * ending k2.
5th Row: k
7th Row: k2, *C4L, C4R, *rep from * to * ending k2.
8th Row: p
These 8 rows form one pattern.
The Cable Panel is worked in this pattern:
1st Row: [k6, p4] twice, k12, [p4, k6] twice.
2nd Row: [p6, k4] twice, p12, [k4, p6] twice.
3rd Row: [Cable 6 back, p4] twice, then on center 12 sts work cable 6 back, cable 6 front, then [p4, cable 6 front] twice.
4th to 6th Rows: Rep 2nd row once and rep 1st and 2nd rows. These 6 rows form one patt for this panel.
Back:
With 3mm needles cast on 109(113;119;125;129) sts and work in rib as follows:
1st Row: (RS) p1, *k1,p1 rep from * to end.
2nd Row: k1, *p1, k1 rep from * to end.
Rep these 2 rows 6 times more then 1st row again.

Change to 3 1/4 mm needles and work in patt.

Cont without shaping until work measures 26(28;30;32;34)cm from beg, ending with a WS row. Make a note of the total number of rows you have worked in patt.
Armhole Shaping:
Cast off 5sts at beg of next two rows, cont on rem 116(122;128;134;140)sts and work 26 rows.
Dec Row: p2(5;8;11;14), *[k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1,p4] twice, k2 [k2tog] 4 times, k2 [p4, k1,k2tog, k2tog, k1] twice,*p8,rep from * to *, p2(5;8;11;14). 92(98;104;110;116) sts. Beg with a k row work 2 rows in rev st st across all sts.
Inc Row 1st size: k4, [kfb, k5, kfb, k4] 8 times. 108 sts.
Inc Row 2nd size: k2 [kfb, k5, kfb, k4] 8 times, [kfb, k3} twice. 116 sts.
Inc Row 3rd size: k4 [kfb, k4] 20 times. 124 sts.

All Sizes:
Work in honeycomb patt and cont without shaping until work measures 42(45;48;51;54) cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shoulder and Neck Shaping:
During foll rows cast-off quite tightly.
1st Row: Cast off 11(12;13;14;15) sts, work until there are 32(33;35;36;38) sts on right needle, leave these for right back. Cast off next 22(26;28;32;34) sts, work to end.
Cont on 43(45;48;50;53) sts now rem at end of the needle for left-back.
Cast off 11(12;13;14;15) sts at beg of next row and 4sts at neck edge on foll row, rep last 2 rows again then cast off rem 13(13;14;14;15)sts to complete the shoulder slope.
Rejoin yarn to neck edge of right back sts, cast off 4, p to end.
Cast off 11(12;13;14;15) sts at beg of next row and 4sts at neck edge on foll row.
Cast off rem 13(13;14;14;15) sts.
Left Front:
With 3mm needles cast on 55(57;61;63;65) sts and work in rib as on back welt for 15 rows.
Inc Row: Rib 6(4;6;3;5), inc in next st, [rib 5(5;6;6;5), inc in next st] 7(8;7;8;9) times, rib rem 6(4;5;3;5) sts. 63(66;69;72;75) sts. Change to 3 1/4 needles and patt.
1st Row: p7(10;13;16;19), work 1st row of cable panel p4.
2nd Row: K4, work 2nd row of cable panel, k7(10;13;16;19). Cont in patt as now set until you have worked the same number of rows as on back to armhole.
Armhole and Front Shaping:
Cast off 5sts for armhole at beg of next row and dec 1 st for front shaping at end of the same row.
Keeping armhole edge straight dec 1 st at the front edge on next 11 alt rows then work 3 rows on rem 46(49;52;55;58)sts thus ending at side edge.
Dec Row: P2(5;8;11;14), [k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1, p4] twice, k2 [k2tog] 4 times, k2, p4, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1, p2. 36(39;42;45;48) sts. **Beg with a k row work 2 rows in rev st st.
Inc Row: k3(4;3;4;3), [kfb, k5] 5(5;6;6;7) times, kfb k rem 2(4;2;4;2) sts. 42(45;49;52;56) sts. Now work in honeycomb patt: work 1st row without shaping then dec 1 st at the front edge on next row. 41(44;48;51;55)sts. **
3rd Row of patt: k2, [C4R, C4L] 4(5;5;6;6) times, then for 1st, 3rd and 5th sizes only C4R, then k3(2;2;1;1). *** Cont in patt as now set and work 1 row without shaping, dec 1 st at front edge on next row, then on every foll 3rd row 0(1;2;3;4) times, then on every alt row 5 times. Cont on rem 35(37;40;42;45) sts until work measures 42(45;48;51;54) cm from beg, ending at side edge.
Shoulder Shaping: Cast off quite tightly 11(12;13;14;15) sts at beg of next row and next alt row, work 1 row then cast off rem 13(13;14;14;15) sts.
Right Front:
Work as given for left front until you have worked the inc row at end of welt then change to 3 1/4 needles and pattern.
1st Row: P4, work 1st row of cable panel, p7(10;13;16;19). Cont in patt as now set until you have worked the same number of rows as on back to armhole.
Front and Armhole Shaping: Dec 1 st at beg of next row for front shaping then cast off 5 sts at beg of foll row for the armhole. Keeping armhole edge straight dec 1 st at the front edge on next row and next 10 alt rows then work 3 rows on rem 46(49;52;55;58) sts thus ending at the front edge. Work the dec row as on left front but reading it in reverse then work as for the left front from ** to **.
3rd Row of Patt: K3(2;2;1;1), then for 1st, 3rd and 5th sizes C3L, now [C3R, C3L] 4(5;5;6;6) times, k2. Cont in patt and complete as for left front from *** to end reversing shapings.
Sleeves:
With 3mm needles cast on 37(39;41;43;45) sts and work 15 rows in rib as on back welt.
Inc Row: Rib 0(1;2;3;4), [inc in each of next 2sts, rib 1] 12 times, inc in the next st, rib 0(1;2;3;4). 62(64;66;68;70) sts. Change to 3 1/4 mm needles and patt.
1st Row: k1(2;3;4;5) forming part of a cable back, p4, work 1st row of cable panel, p4, k1(2;3;4;5) forming part of a cable front.
Cont in patt as now set and work 2 more rows without shaping, inc 1 st at both ends of next row then every foll 4th row 15(18;21;24;28) times, then inc at both ends of every alt row 6(5;5;4;2) times, work extra sts into patt of 6 st cables with 4 sts in rev st st between them, always working cable 6 back at the right-hand edge of work and cable 6 front at left-hand edge.
When incs are completed cont on 106(112;120;126;132) sts until work measures 33(36;40;43;47) cm from beg. Cast off all sts tightly over cables.
Front and Neck Borders:
With RS of work facing and using 3mm needles, pick up and k47(50;52;55;58) sts along the shaped front edge of the left front and 70(75;81;86;91) sts along the straight front edge. 117(125;133;141;149) sts.
Begin with 2nd row work in rib, if the cardigan is for a girl work 7 rows in rib then cast off loosely ribwise. If for a boy work 3 rows in rib then make buttonholes.
Next Row: Beg at shoulder edge, RS facing, rib 50(53;55;58;61), *cast off 2, [rib until there are 13(14;16;17;18) sts on right needle after buttonhole, cast off 2] 4 times, * rib to end.
On foll row cast on 2sts over each buttonhole. work 2 more rows in rib then cast off loosely ribwise.
With RS of work facing and using 3mm needles, pick up and k70(75;81;86;91) sts along the straight front edge of right front and 47(50;52;55;58) sts along the shaped edge to shoulder. 117(125;133;141;149) sts. Beg with 2nd row work in rib.
If cardigan is for a boy work 7 rows then cast off loosely ribwise. If for a girl work 3 rows then make buttonholes.
Next Row: Beg at lower edge, RS facing, rib 5(6;4;5;6), rep from * to * in buttonhole row of left front border rib to end.
On foll row cast on 2 sts over each buttonhole. Work 2 more rows in rib then cast off loosely ribwise. With RS of work facing and using 3mm needles, pick up and k35(39;41;45;47) sts across back neck edge. Beg with 2nd row work 7 rows in rib then cast off loosely ribwise.
Makeup:
To make up this boys sweater knitting pattern, join the shoulder seams and ends of borders. Sew cast-off edge of sleeves to sides of armholes and sew armhole casting-off to last 5 rows on sides of sleeves.
Join side and sleeve seams.
Sew on the buttons to correspond with the buttonholes.
