Pullover Baby Jersey Pattern

Here is a pattern for a baby jersey. It has raglan sleeves and is a relatively simple pattern to follow for beginner knitters.

Baby Jersey

This pattern is for a baby of 3, 6 and 9 months old.baby jersey

Materials:

Wool – Baby wool in 4 PLY (50g balls)

2 balls in the color of your choice

4 buttons

2.75mm knitting needles

3,25mm knitting needles

Stitch Holder

Tension:

It is recommended that you check the tension in order to save you both time and money before knitting this baby jersey.

28sts and 40 rows = 10cm using 3.25mm needles and the pattern.

Abbreviations:

You can see the abbreviations list on the knitting dictionary.

Pattern:

1st Row: *p2sts, k1, k2tog, yrn rep from * to last 2sts, p2sts.

2nd and every alt row: *k2sts, p3sts, rep from *to last 2 sts, k2.

3rd Row: *P2, yon, k2tog tbl, k1, rep from * to last 2sts, p2sts.

4th Row: As per 2nd Row.

These four rows form the pattern.

Back:

Cast on 61(71;81)sts with the 2.75mm needles and work in rib pattern of k1, p1 for 3cm ending with a WSR inc 1 st at end of last row = 62(72;82)sts.

Change to 3,25mm needles and cont straight in the pattern above.

When work measures 11(13,5;15,5)cm from the beg ending with a WSR, shape the raglan sleeves. Cast off 2sts at beg of next 2 rows = 58(68;78)sts. ***Now divide for the back opening as folls: K2tog, Patt 24(29;34)sts, k6sts, leaving rem sts on holder.

Right Side:

Now turn and cont on first 31(36;41)sts for the right side of work.

Next Row: k6sts, patt to end. Cont working 6 center sts in g st (=buttonhole band), dec 1st (= work 2 tog) at armhole edge of next and foll alt row twice in all = 29(34;39)sts. Work 1 row.

Next Row: K2tog, patt to last 6 sts, k3 yfd, k2tog (=buttonhole), k1.

Work 1 row. Cont dec at armhole edge as before on every alt row 15(14:14)times more, then every foll row 0(5;9) times.

At the same time working a buttonhole as before on 12(12:14)th row from the previous buttonhole twice = 13(14;15)sts.

Work 1(0;0) row, thus ending with a WSR then cast off rem sts.

Left Side:

RSF, rejoin arm to rem sts, pick up sts from holder, cast on 6sts (=button band) and work as for right side, rev shaping and omitting buttonholes.

Front:

Work as for back to ***.

Dec 1 st at each end of next and every fol alt row until 36(44;52)sts rem.

Work 1 row thus ending with a WSR.

Shape Neck:

K2tog, patt 12(15;18) sts and leave on the holder, cast off center 8(10;12)sts for neck opening and cont on rem sts for the left side of work.

Left Side:

Cont raglan shaping as before, cast off 1 st at neck edge on every RSR, until 5(8;11)sts rem.

Now dec at armhole edge only on every alt row 3(1;0) times, then on every row 0(5;9) times = 2 sts.

K2tog, fasten off.

Right Side:

WSF, rejoin yarn at neck edge, pick up sts from holder and work as for left side, rev shapings.

Sleeves:

Using 2,75mm needles cast on 39(41;43)sts and work in rib patt for 3 cm ending with a WSR.

Change to 3,25mm needles and cont in st st, inc 1 st at each end of next and every foll 4(4;6)th row 9(4;10) times in all, then every foll 6th row 0(5;0) times = 57(59;63)sts.

Cont straight and when work measures 12,5(15;17)cm from beg ending with a WSR, shape the raglan.

Cast off 2sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row until 19sts rem, then on every foll row until 9 sts rem thus ending with a WSR. Cast off rem sts.

To Make Up:

Block pieces to measurement, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Sew raglan seams.

Neckband:

RSF, using 2,75mm needles, pick up and k65(69;77)sts around neck opening [=13(14;15)sts each side of the back neck, 7 sts across top of each sleeve and 25(27;33)sts around neck opening of front] and cont as follows:

1st Row: k6,*p1, k1, rep from * to last 5 sts k5.

2nd Row: k7, *p1,k1, rep from * to last 6 sts, k6. Rep last 2 rows 2(3;3) times, working a buttonhole as before in 12(12;14)th row from the previous buttonhole.

Cast off RW. Sew up side and sleeve seams.

Sew lower edge of buttonband to lower edge of buttonhole band on the inside of pullover. Sew on buttons.
