If you are anything like me, you probably have a large assortment of half used up stickers collecting dust in your scrapbooking kits. The problem is that I often see stickers and buy them on impulse because I like them, and then they sit in my kit, as I never quite have the right layout to use them on.

I also sometimes find that if I apply the ones I like to my completed layout, they tend to look like an afterthought and get lost in the background.

My suggestion would be to either wait, plan your design and then buy your stickers to fit in with your design or buy stickers that you know you will use in the future. You normally can’t go wrong buying letters of the alphabet or numbers, as there is always ways you can use them in your journaling.

With a little time and imagination, you can take your stickers and reinvent them. There are no rules to state that they have to be used in their purchased state.

Here are a few scrapbooking ideas and solutions that you can use to create some interesting and original works using your old (and new) stickers.

Try stitching a design onto your stickers with your sewing machine. You could even stitch a sticker to your layout. Use colors of thread that complement the design of the sticker.
Try giving your scrapbooking stickers a distressed look by either tearing them, inking them around the edges or on the surface or lightly sanding them using fine sandpaper.
Dry brushing scrapbooking stickers with acrylic paints will also give a whole new dimension to a flat sticker.
Layering stickers is also a great way of creating depth and texture, which will enhance the overall look of your design.
You could also try mixing types and styles of stickers, or cut them into various shapes and rejoin them like you would a jigsaw puzzle.
Matting stickers on cardstock works very well if you want them to stand out. I often do this with lettering and then stick it onto my layout with a foam square so that it has a three-dimensional effect.
Use stickers with your metallic rub-ons for an even more interesting effect.
